Ammolites are fossilized remains of ammonites, an extinct group of cephalopods that lived around 70 to 75 million years ago during the Late Cretaceous period. These creatures lived in what is now known as southern Alberta, Canada. The ammolites found near Lethbridge and other areas in southern Alberta are typically from the Bearpaw Formation, dating back around 71 to 74 million years. These fossils are prized for their vibrant iridescence, which is caused by the unique structure of their shells.
